The San Francisco Giants have re-signed Jake Peavy for two years, on a deal worth $24 million according to Ken Rosenthal. Peavy had been all around the league these past two seasons, after being traded to the Boston Red Sox in 2013 and then to the San Francisco Giants in 2014, winning his second straight World Series after being traded from the Chicago White Sox in 2013.
During last year’s title run for San Francisco, he posted inconsistent numbers after shutting out the Nationals over 5.1 innings in the opener of the NLDS. He later struggled in his three appearances afterwards with an E.R.A. of 8.65. During the regular season, he had a record of 7-13 with a 3.73 E.R.A. with the Red Sox and Giants, going 6-4 with San Francisco and enjoying a 2.17 E.R.A.
This is a rare upside for San Francisco this offseason, after losing Pablo Sandoval and losing out on Jon Lester. Peavy will stay in his fourth spot in the rotation (presumably) until further notice.
The Giants may still have some hope for turning this offseason around, as they are still in the hunt for Max Scherzer or James Shields and have also added Casey McGehee.
Over his 13 year career, Peavy is 139-111 with a 3.53 E.R.A.
